Deciding to do something about my health 10 years ago; I quit smoking, started dieting and exercising to manage my blood sugar, cholesterol levels as well as my blood presure. I was headed down a killer path and I really wanted to make better choice and show my kids the right example.
In return, I managed to eliminate blood sugar issues, reduced my cholesterol to a healthy level and brought my blood pressure back down to normal.
The rewards were far more than loosing almost 50 lbs, my achievements were even better than I even would have thought possible. I got very active in my kids lives, I became their hockey coach and have been for the last 7 years which has allowed me to spend valuable quality time with them as well as other kids and that is the part of this journey I have loved the best about changing my life. Making a difference in kids' lives including my own.
During these past 10 years, I have returned to a sport I enjoy very much for myself as well, hockey. A few years ago I severly injured my ankle and with a very stern warning from my doctor was forced to let it heal for at least 8-12 months, as well as give my body a good rest after a few scary rapid heart rate episodes and this made me start taking it easy for a little while.
Although I didn't completely remain sedentary, I did slow down quite a bit and gained some of the weight back, not too much but enough to notice that my once very loose clothes have gotten snug. Now that I have gotten the go ahead by my doctor, getting back on the wagon was a little tough, I did but I wasn't back to the fitness level I loved to be at.
Now at 38 I am in good shape, but would rather be in phenominal shape so I am heading down a personal challenge, I have ended up with a bit of a spare tire and would really love to define my mid section like an athlete's.
I started the P90x, I have loved it so far, had challenges during the hockey season with the combination of both the program and the tournaments but I am back in it in full swing and look forward to putting my final photo to show the end results.
Here's to the next assignment, the completion of my transformation story. Suck it up buttercup...
