I actually started P90X once before, in June 2007. Made it to day 47 before I had to quit. My wife had a stroke in July 2007, and caring for her during her recovery took pretty much all of my free time. I also had some significant work related pressure eating into my free time.
Flash forward a year later, and I had gained back all of the weight I had lost, and then some, and was quite out of shape. We were booked to go to Peru in June 2008, for a trip that included a 4 day, 27 mile mountain hike to Machu Picchu. Needless to say, I was anxious about the hike. I didn't know whether I could do it. Well, we did the hike, probably the single most challenging endeavor I have ever done. I was exhausted and sore. Flying home, I decided then and there that if I could hike 8 - 9 hours a day for 4 days straight in the shape I was in, I certainly could commit to an hour and a half a day of exercise with P90X. I spent a couple of months reacclimating myself to working out regularly. I gave up caffeine and cigars, started eating clean. On Saturday, September 13, 3008, I began the X. I lost 25 lbs and 6 inches off my waist in 90 days. My goal is to lose 20 more lbs and have a 32 - 33" waist after 2 rounds of the X, around 4/3/09, and to be able to do 20 pullups at that time. Long term, I want to keep improving my fitness level to a point where I can start running competitive 5K's in the 50 - 55 class.
As for my wife, the storke victim? She is training for a marathon (her 13th) in February 2009, supplementing her running with the X on her off days. She will start a complete round after the marathon in March 2009.
