It’s been my experience that the same is true with cookies. Chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin? You may love both (of course you love both), but if a tray of fresh-from-the-oven cookies is offered with both flavors, and you can only take one, most people will instinctively reach for the same kind of cookie every time.
I am on Team Oatmeal Raisin. I like the chewy texture of the oats, the sweet, but not too sweet, bites of raisin, and their soft, buttery crumb. I also like to think that oatmeal cookies are a wee bit better for me, even if in reality they are still sugar-laden treats. I mean, they have whole grains and fruit… they could almost be breakfast food. OK, not really. Scratch that idea.
But this Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Shakeology can be breakfast any day! It takes the healthy ingredients that give the cookies their name, adds a dash of cinnamon for spice, and blends them into a sweet Vanilla Shakeology smoothie. The raisins break apart during blending, so they are distributed throughout the shake, adding raisin flavor to every sip. I like to add a few drops of vanilla extract and a pinch of nutmeg, too. You could also swap the raisins for unsweetened dried cranberries to add seasonal flair to your smoothie.
Old fashioned rolled oats add thickness and texture to the shake, and give it a boost of fiber that will help you feel fuller for longer. They also add a mild, but unmistakable, oat flavor. You could substitute other types of rolled or quick oats in this recipe, but old fashioned rolled oats don’t spike blood sugar in the way that instant oats can, making them a better choice to stock in your pantry. Steel cut oats are the healthiest choice for a hearty bowl of oatmeal, but they don’t work in this recipe.
Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Shakeology

Yield: 1 smoothie
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 scoop Vanilla Shakeology
2 Tbsp. dry old-fashioned rolled oats
½ tsp. ground cinnamon
1 Tbsp. raisins
1 cup ice
1. Place almond milk, Shakeology, oats, cinnamon, raisins, and ice in blender; cover. Blend until smooth.
