Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
Before I started the program, I knew I needed a change. I play and coach hockey, and found it getting more and more difficult to do what I needed to because of the added weight. One day I realized that I am getting slower and slower and running out of breath much quicker. I would just get to the bench after a shift on the ice and be mad at myself for allowing my weight to be the obstacle in my happiness.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
My father is facing some major health issues that have stemmed from his weight gain. When I would go visit him, I found myself wondering how he let himself gain so much weight. One day getting out of the shower, I looked in the mirror and saw my dad. I was turning into him and it hit me… I have a family that I want and need to be around for. I need to become healthy and stay active so I can enjoy my days doing the things that I love, rather than being crippled by my weight.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge?
Motivation is the biggest challenge I faced before starting the program. I have started quite a few programs in the past, even a Beachbody program, but never finished. I always found that there was a TV show to watch or something else that I would rather be doing besides working out. I also really liked my fast food — this was another huge problem. The Challenge Groups, along with my Coach, were the reason I was so successful this time around. Having the motivation of all the other members that were in my group made me want to succeed for them, as much as for myself!
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
Country Heat was fun and it never felt like I was working out. This made it much easier to convince myself that I needed to turn on the next video. Having great music that we were dancing to also made the time fly by.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
Compliments from people who didn’t even know I was working out has been the biggest thing that I have been proud of. When you get people who come up to you and ask what you have been doing because you look great, it makes it all worth it.
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
I have more energy since completing Country Heat, and I am now finding that I am not tempted by all the junk food that I used to be. I must say that just because I completed a program doesn’t mean that I am done. I intend to keep doing programs and drinking my Shakeology because it has made a world of difference in my life.
How did participating in a Challenge Group help you reach your goals? How did your group support you and keep you accountable?
When you are working out by yourself, you can easily convince yourself that there are other things that you could be doing right now. Another thing I used to do is quit my workouts early by thinking, “Okay I have done enough.” When you are in a Challenge Group, you have the motivation of everyone else in the group. Their posts of finishing a video, and how hard it was but they pushed through, make you feel like if you are giving up or cheating, then you are letting the group down as well!
How did your Team Beachbody Coach support you on your journey?
My Coach was awesome. He was always posting new informational posts for the group and making sure we were all on track. The other thing that I felt was helpful was the fact that he also posted all his workouts as well. Having a newborn, he was always having to sneak in workouts during naps or find ways to keep the little ones entertained while he got his workout in. This was very inspirational because if he can manage his workouts with that going on in his life, I can find time in my day as well!

I have been drinking Shakeology the whole time during my program, and unlike other protein shakes, I found this to actually be beneficial. I felt like I had more energy during the day, when I would normally be sleepy.2 I also loved knowing that I was getting all the nutrients that my body needed when I was drinking the shakes. I was away on business for a week, and you never know what type of food you are going to have at a conference, but it didn’t matter because I knew I would have a Shakeology with me to stay on track.
